Is Star Wars a Movie of Heros? Who Really Is?

The Star Wars we are watching in class starts off with the two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO, saving the plans from Darth Vader. These are the main heros of the story as of now, but knowing the rest of the movie I know more are to come. But by studying heros in class and realizing these droids could be considered heros. So what makes the future heros, heros? Should R2-D2 and C-3PO be considered a hero? How do we distinguish the true heros from who gets the spotlight in the movie?

  1. I think that because it is very early in the movie, there are only a limited amount of heroes. Because of this unlimited universe, the opportunity for heroes are endless. I think George Lucas focused on these two characters to define the plot better. Because this type of movie has never been created, it seems right to start out the movies with an unusual set of heroes.

    1. I agree. At this point in the saga, we know little about any of the characters. Lucas uses these futuristic machines to show how Even they can show heroic qualities.

  2. I think that when creating the film, George Lucas wanted to introduce our protagonist, Luke Skywalker, later in the film in a way in which the audience did not expect him to become the hero. However I also think for about the first twenty minutes of the film, the only characters we as the audience get to know are R2D2 and C3PO and I don't think there is a reason to consider them heroes. Even though these two "get the spotlight" in much of the beginning of the film, I don't think they're considered the main heroes of the movie.

  3. I think that heroes do not have to be human, and the two droids in this saga are perfect examples of this. Both help to complete a task which, if done by a human, would be considered a heroic task. I think that in the future we will see more money-human heroes in our everyday lives.

  4. I think that while R2D2 and C3PO are not the main heroes, they are heroes in the movie. I actually think it was a stroke of genius by George Lucas to introduce the main hero(es) later in the film in Luke and Ben. At first, Luke seems like this bratty kid who whines when he doesn't get his way, and you think there is no way this kid could ever become a hero, but after he is introduced to Ben and gets aboard the Death Star, you can really see the beginning of a hero.
