New Vs Old?
In class Mr. Farrenkopf talked about the edited movie having a different bar scene. Instead of Han Solo just killing the bounty hunter, the bounty hunter fires his gun first, misses, and then Han kills him. Does the second version ruin Han's image of being this "Badass." Or does this second scene make him fit the part better of him being more heroic?

I think the old version makes Han Solo seem like more of a badass. It's cooler when he shoots before the bounty hunter and is more realistic. When the bounty shooter gets a shot off and simply misses, it makes it seem like the bounty hunter is inaccurate and Han Solo didn't have the guts to shoot first.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the second version of this scene ruins Han's image and is an unnecessary adjustment. I think that initially Han is supposed to be seen as the "badass" type and the audience shouldn't think of him as a hero. This gives Han a chance to grow as a character over the course of the movie and become an unexpected hero.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I feel that this adjustment is an unnecessary one and actually takes away from the plot development. Could this be where Lucas started to go wrong?
DeleteGreat video! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe new version tries to cover what the first one so eloquently set up. In the original movie there is mystery surrounding Han, and he honestly is set up in the beginning to seem like the kind of person our heroes should not be with. In the second version all this mystery about him is kind of just brushed off because he only killed out of self defense.
