Revolutionizing the movie industry

Star Wars was a revolutionary, almost new type of genre during its premiere. Star wars was one of the first multi film sagas, George Lucas knew this from the very beginning.
"It wasn't long after I began writing Star Wars that I realized the story was more than a single film could hold. As the saga of the Skywalkers and Jedi Knights unfolded, I began to see it as a tale that could take at least nine films to tell—three trilogies—and I realized, in making my way through the back story and after story, that I was really setting out to write the middle story."(George Lucas)
The film was thought of as a very risky investment, because of its irregular plot and film strategies. George Lucas revolutionized the movie industry by providing sequels.

  1. What would movies look like today without Lucas creating the Star Wars movies. Your quote is interesting because we see that the creator of the Star Wars Galaxy had no idea that the intended first movie actually became the middle of the saga.

  2. I think this quote demonstrates how the star wars saga became more than just a bunch of movies. It became an unpredictable story that not only the public became obsessed with, but also the producers. I think the idea of an unpredictable movie saga can be seen in present day series like the hobbit movies as well as some of the marvel movies.

  3. This quote is interesting to look at because he is discussing the extent of the limits of the Star Wars universe. It shows some insight into how big the series really is, and it soon will become completely true as the first film of the next trilogy will be in theaters soon.

  4. One of the most interesting aspects of the Star Wars universe to me, occurs outside of the 6 films currently under Lucas's belt. Lucas created a universe so captivating and so unique that not only could this universe hold 9 films, but Star Wars has a near infinite amount of comics, video games, and films based off of this gigantic universe. The public can't seem to get enough of this universe, and with that, there are countless other stories where heroes, similar to Luke are introduced.

  5. This quote is fascinating because it reveals more into Lucas' foresight about how popular the film would become. The fact that he believed that he would be able to fill nine whole films worth of Star Wars content is amazing and just goes to show Lucas' creativity and devotion to the Star Wars universe. Not only was he able to expand the story into the future, but he was also able to create three films that looked at the origins of how the original universe came to be.

  6. I agree with Anthony that this quote is very interesting. It shows how in the beginning, George Lucas did not expect Star Wars to become as huge as it did. It wasn't until later on that he realized its potential and took this into his own hands and ended up making 9 films out of it.

  7. I think that this quote is interesting because before Star Wars, George Lucas wasn't very well known at all. Though he had made some films previously before creating Star Wars, none of them added up to what Star Wars would become. I also think it's interesting that he didn't expect the films to become the phenomenon that they did. It is interesting to read from Lucas's perspective and his thought process in creating the films.

  8. I think that the Star Wars films revolutionized the film making industry. They had action shots in the first film that had never been done before. Lucas created a world that had its own history and traditions that can be brought into multiple movies, TV shows and books. It was a risky investment but overall it paid off for the producers.
