Rorschach

Rorschach is a sick, twisted man who we as readers sympathize with, but the Comedian is of the same psychotic level, and we hate him. Besides for killing innocent people, the Comedian is the same as Rorschach. What makes a reader like Rorschach? Is it that he was introduced first? Readers have more story on Rorschach? What if the story was around the Comedian, would we feel the opposite to both characters?

  1. Personally, I do not particularly "like" Rorschach. Rather, I find him to be an interesting character who offers us a better look at the horrors of the world in which he lives in. Through him, we see a part of what the Comedian saw and as a result he is a very important tool to our understanding of the setting. I feel we sympathize with Rorschach simply because we care about the world that Watchmen takes place in and we know that without Rorschach, it could prove very difficult to learn what was happening to all the masked heroes and why they seem to be picked off one by one.

  2. I can't necessarily say I like or empathize with Rorschach. I personally think he's insane, but its a compelling story line. He is so deep as a character that I think a reader is drawn to him for his little intricacies, trying to connect the dots of his character. He's so dark, so black and white that he draws you in because you want to know why he is what he is. I think a lot of that was explained in the psychologist chapter, but I think there are definitely some more questions to be answered about Rorschach.

  3. I think the reason we like Rorschach more than the Comedian is because we see Rorschach doing things that can be justified. Neither Rorschach or the Comedian have many morals, but the Comedian seemed like a more selfish hero. I definitely like Rorschach as a protagonist and hope he continues to fight for his own sense of justice.

  4. I think we as the audience have a better connection with Rorschach because the story pretty much revolves around him so we see from his perspective and therefore, we can empathize with him. On the other hand, Rorschach has many dark sides to him as well and can be seen as a pretty confusing person. I also think that Rorschach's past has had a pretty big impact on his life. We see in the past couple chapters his experiences as a child which left him traumatized. We don't know the Comedian as well, and what we do know of him is what he did wrong. Hopefully throughout the last few chapters of the book, we will find out more about him.
